Naples, italy - DAY 6 - March 11, 2023

This morning we are sailing towards Naples, Italy. We have an afternoon port call which means a quiet morning to have a leisurely breakfast.

This afternoon we went on an excursion to Pompeii. Pompeii is an interesting place, it is very large and has still not been totally excavated. We spent about 4 hours walking around the site with our guide Fabio and really only saw the most basic highlights. I believe that you could spend weeks there to see everything the site has to offer. This was our first of many visits to a truly ancient site, and the the feeling is a little surreal. We were glad to be in Italy in March - it was crowded, but I understand by summer it will be very crowded and very hot.

Our guide, Fabio, showing us a map of Pompeii - very large!

Typical street in the middle of Pompeii - hard to believe it was all covered in ash

This was an area of Pompeii that had been restored during the pandemic and had only been open a few months.

We were there - Mount Vesuvius in the background
