Nuremberg, germany - day 10 - july 16, 2019
Today we took an optional excursion to the WW2 Nazi Parade Grounds in Nuremberg, Germany. This was the most difficult excursions that we took on the entire trip. To be standing in front of the grand stand that Adolf Hitler stood was one of the creepiest feelings I have ever had. We toured through the Kongresshalle (Congress Hall) that Hitler was building to be like the Colosseum in Rome, but much larger. The German students are required to go to these document centers and tour the grounds as part of their high school education. I was very proud of the German people to turn the entire complex into a educational facility so that students can understand what happened during the Nazi years.
We then stopped at the spot where the Nuremberg Trials following WW2 were held. Unfortunately we were there on a Tuesday, when the court room is closed, so we did not get to see inside. It is still used today as a working court complex.
