regensburg, germany - day 11 - july 17, 2019

Today we visited the Bavarian town of Regensburg. The city center is a UNESCO world heritage site. The town has been around for a very long time and St. Peter;’s Church, the cathedral is considered to be one of the best examples of gothic architecture in Germany. We went to the beer garden on the other side of the river and enjoyed some of Regensburg’s finest!

We had an abbreviated port call in Regensburg due to the river levels falling on the Danube. Our ship captain was worried about getting through the shallowest section of the Danube before the authorities closed the river. One of the important things about cruising the European rivers is the river volume. The capitan is constantly watching to make sure that we can ge under the lowest bridges or that there is enough water so we will not get grounded. It turned out that the captain was correct as we were the last ship to get through before they closed the river.
