kotor, montenegro - DaY 16 - March 21, 2023
This morning I ate at Mamsen’s - a little place on the ship that is named after the owner’s grandmother. They serve Norwegian fare. I had an interesting waffle made with goat cheese and berries - it was very good, but not something I’d eat very often!
Today we went on an excellent tour. Kotor, Montenegro is one of the most beautiful places we have been on this trip. The inlet that the town is on is very far inland from the sea and the mountain rise up all around the town. We went on a bus ride up what is considered one of the most beautiful drives in Europe. Thee are 25 numbered switchbacks that rise in elevation several thousand feet. The tour guide was telling us how dangerous the road is and not to worry because we had a professional driver when another car ran into the front of our bus! No one was hurt and the car did not hit us very hard. The drives argues for awhile the car driver gave the bus driver some money and away we went for the remainder of the drive. The few from the top was tremendous!
We continued our drive to the old capital and went to King Nikolas’s Museum in the old royal capital of Cetinje. We were not allowed to take photos inside. After the museum we continue to the seaside resort town of Budva. We returned to the area where our ship was docked and did a walk around the old walled city of Kotor. Kotor was designed like a maze to thwart attacks - it worked - we got lost several times! Kotor is also know for it many cats - the Cats of Kotor are a tourist thing and they feed them and have shelters for them and make money off the cat merchandise.
