athens, greece - Day One - DaY 19 - March 24, 2023

This is it - we had a great breakfast and prepared to disembark from the Viking Sky at Piraeus, the port in Athens. We are going to spend an extra 4 nights in Athens on a extension.

We met Joseph, our Viking host for the next several days. We started the day by going to the new Acropolis Museum. The Museum is a beautiful new addition and will allow Greece to get back some of their antiquities - if the countries that have them want to give them back. Our tour guide, Katarina will also be with us in Greece for the next several days, she is excellent and a wealth of knowledge. After visiting the museum we proceeded to climb to the top of the Acropolis. It was a warm day and very crowded - it was our understanding that it was not hot nor crowded - once again, very glad we are here in March!

We made our way to our hotel - The Intercontinental, right in the middle of Athens. On our hosts suggestion we went to eat at Vassilis Grill House - this was quite the experience. The food was excellent. Vassillis’ wife cooks and he sits a table at the entrance and barks at everyone - truly dinner and a show - it was very entertaining an fun!
