Mycenae & epidaurus, Peloponnese Peninsula, greece - DaY 21 - March 26, 2023

Today we headed south out of Athens to the Peloponnese a peninsula that is separated from mainland Greece by a very small canal - the Corinth Canal. The canal has not been used in several years because it is prone to rock fall. After passing over the Cornith Canal we proceeded to Mycenae - a defensive citadel built during the bronze ager about 1200 BCE that overlooks a great deal of southern Greece. We went through the famous Lion Gate and walked to the top - the view was amazing! We then went just around the corner to the Tomb of Agamemnon or Treasury of Atreus a beehive shaped underground tomb that is dated to between 1400 and 1200 BCE.

We had lunch at this amazing lunch place that catered to busses and held about 700 people - Agamemnon Palace - not historical, but pretty amazing!

After lunch we went to a very famous amphitheater - the Theatre of Epidaurus. The amphitheater seats 12,000 - was built in 400 BCE and is still used today for many concerts. It’s acoustics are still studied by many Universities becuase you can hear a peson on the stage when serated anywhere in the ampitheather! Shelly sang a bit and was very well received!
